Situated between Fawkner and Glenroy, Hadfield is a relatively small suburb of 3 square km with a population of around 5366 people at the 2011 census. It is only 13 km north from the CBD and part of the municipality of Moreland City Council. It is bounded by West St, South St/Boundary Rd, East St and Hilton St.
Hadfield was mainly developed post World War 2 and catered for working class families. At the time, homes were constructed in timber with houses built later in the 1960’s being constructed in brick veneer. Recent building activity has produced mainly town houses and dual occupancy.
Hadfield has many shopping options including a Woolworths supermarket on the corner of West St and Geum St and local strip shopping at East St, North St and West St. The Hadfield post office is also situated in West St. Cafes and take away stores can be found in these shopping districts also.
Public transport is readily available with many bus routes and the Upfield railway line. A connecting bus route to the nearby Craigieburn railway line is also an option. The Upfield bike path and the Western Ring Road Trail provide facilities for recreational and commuting cyclists. Nearby major road routes include Western Ring Road, Hume Freeway, Tullamarine Freeway as well as Sydney Rd and Pascoe Vale Rd.
